Description
Traditional fishing method using trained cormorants, in Arashiyama, Kyoto, Japan. The fire was lit to attract fish, and the cormorants are sent out on command, with taps on the side of the boat. The rope tied around their necks prevent them from swallowing the larger fish. Once the cormorants catch their prey, they are pulled back in. The fisherman squeezes their throat and they cough up their catch.
